Yakitori Anybody?? Yes Please!

In some very exciting news, a new restaurant concept is moving into town soon! Located in a space that has housed a few Japanese inspired restaurants over the last few decades, a new placed called Torikaya, a yakitori-focused restaurant from Chattanooga-based Kals Restaurant Group, is set to open in late April at 1120 Houston St (near Warehouse Row). Led by executive chef Erick Cielo—who brings international experience from Los Angeles, Mexico, Spain, and Dubai—the concept centers around traditional Japanese charcoal grilling, with a specialty yakitori grill operating at over 800 degrees. The restaurant blends this technique throughout the menu, from skewers to ramen and sushi, with an emphasis on sashimi and a touch of Southern influence. The bar program will feature Japanese whiskies, sake, and a curated wine list, alongside approachable, reimagined cocktails.

Housed in a restored 1910 building, Torikaya combines historic charm with a modern, cozy design, including a sushi counter, spacious bar, and private dining room. After years in development, the opening reflects the group’s continued expansion in Chattanooga’s growing food scene. With both lunch and dinner service planned, Torikaya aims to bring a fresh, high-quality dining experience rooted in tradition but driven by chef Cielo’s personal, intuitive approach to cooking.

You will see me there not long after opening day!
